Why Do You Need JetKVM?

Traditional remote management solutions often require expensive enterprise hardware, complex network configuration, or dedicated IT infrastructure. JetKVM provides a simple, affordable, and reliable way to remotely control your computer anytime, anywhere.

Remote BIOS-Level Access

Access your computer's screen, keyboard, and mouse remotely even when the OS is unavailable or the device is stuck during boot. Troubleshoot kernel panics, update BIOS settings, or reinstall the OS from anywhere.

No Software Installation Needed

JetKVM operates at the hardware level — no agents, drivers, or software required on the target machine. Works with any OS including Windows, macOS, Linux, and BSD.

Ultra-Low Latency

1080p@60FPS video streaming with 30-60ms latency using H.264 hardware encoding. Smooth, responsive mouse and keyboard interaction for a near-local experience.

Key Benefits

Manage computers without being physically present
Ideal for home labs, servers, workstations, and IT maintenance
Reduce travel time and improve remote troubleshooting efficiency
Fully open-source software, actively maintained on GitHub
Free cloud access via WebRTC, no port forwarding required
Extensible with ATX, DC power, and serial console add-on boards

How to Use JetKVM

1. Power Supply Options

JetKVM supports multiple power supply methods. Choose the option that best fits your setup.

USB-A Power (Included Cable)

Power JetKVM directly from the controlled computer's USB-A port using the included USB-A to USB-C cable. The simplest setup — just plug it in.

DC Power Control Extension

Connect via the expansion port using the provided RJ12 cable for eMMC version or 5 Pin Cable for the latest full-HDMI version. Enables remote power cycling of DC-powered devices like mini PCs and NAS units.

Y Cable (Power & Data Splitter)

Use a standard 5V power adapter through the USB-C power input. The Y cable splits power and data for independent power delivery.

PoE (Power over Ethernet) — PoE Version

Available exclusively on the PoE version (MSRP $119). Power and network delivered through a single Ethernet cable (802.3af compliant). One cable for both — ideal for racks and homelabs with PoE switches.

Important: Only use a standard 5V power adapter. Do not use USB-C PD chargers with voltage negotiation — higher voltage may damage the device. This is not covered under warranty.

2. How to Use JetKVM Cloud Access

JetKVM Cloud allows you to securely access your device from anywhere on the internet. All communication uses WebRTC with end-to-end encryption via DTLS and SRTP, and a Zero Trust security model ensures only authorized users gain access.

1Access Locally

Open your browser and go to the local IP address shown on your JetKVM device screen.

2Enable Remote Access

Click Settings in the action bar, scroll down and click Enable Remote Access.

3Authenticate via OIDC

Log in with your Google account (OIDC provider). The device itself verifies the authentication request.

4Access from Anywhere

You'll be redirected to the JetKVM cloud dashboard. Manage your device securely from any browser, anywhere.

3. How to Update to the Latest Firmware

Keeping firmware updated ensures optimal performance, latest features, and security patches. Recent releases added H.265 codec with auto-negotiation, MQTT and Home Assistant integration, factory reset with signed release verification, and more. Firmware is actively developed on GitHub.

1
Open Interface

Open the JetKVM web management interface.

2
Navigate to Updates

Go to General > Check for Update.

3
Check & Download

Click "Check for Updates."

4
Install & Reboot

Confirm and wait for restart. Do not disconnect power.

4. How to Install Tailscale

Tailscale provides a secure zero-config VPN mesh over WireGuard for remote access without port forwarding. Tailscale has added out-of-the-box support for JetKVM, making installation simple.

1Add Your SSH Key

First, add your SSH public key to JetKVM through the web interface (Settings > SSH Keys).

2Run One Command

From your local computer, run:
curl -fsSL https://jetkvm.com/install-tailscale.sh | sh -s -- <jetkvm_ip>

3Authenticate

Follow the URL printed by the script to authenticate with your Tailscale account in your browser.

4Access via Tailscale

JetKVM is now on your Tailscale mesh network. Connect using its Tailscale IP (100.x.x.x) from any device.

Tip: Using a self-hosted Headscale server? Append arguments after the IP: curl -fsSL https://jetkvm.com/install-tailscale.sh | sh -s -- <ip> -- --login-server=https://headscale.example.com

5. How to Update Tailscale

To update Tailscale, simply re-run the same install script from your local computer:

curl -fsSL https://jetkvm.com/install-tailscale.sh | sh -s -- <jetkvm_ip>

This will update Tailscale to the latest version on your JetKVM device. No SSH access needed.
